  1. oh wow.. the TV talk.. so much fun.
The CG? COme on Tiny CG is the LEAST problem of Falling Skies. Noone cares about the CG. How about the ENTIRETY of human civilization is pretty much down noone is running the power plants.. why are they doing stuff like “let’s have animated movie night like we’re camping” or “Let’s have school” because in the fight for survival school takes such a huge importance. The problem is the show toggles back and forth between “Aliens just landed let’s not lose our selves to panic” and “Aliens landed and we’re losing let’s readjust ourselves”. 6 months sounds like the former but the complete domination seems more like the latter.

If you want an example of how to do it right see their inspiration. The Tripods series

now THAT is a story about aliens taking over.. and then mankind having to readjust and still fighting. Even if you read the descriptions it’s very very clear that IT and War of the Worlds are how we got Falling Skies. People say Resistance but I never played the campaign in those games.

I understand TV can’t move as slow as books but in a case like alien attack you really have to pick if you’re going to sell the early story (attack just happened; people still remember before. Example: War of the Worlds) or the latter story (mankind is part of a resistance; maybe noone actually remembers when the landing happened; example: The Matrix)

The true failing of Falling Skies isn’t the CG (which I thought was actually fine) but the lack of consistency in the players, plot and in general the entire production.

Ed Norton was a great Hulk.. he was much better. I can see Eric Bana is a better Banner.. I disagree but it’s not a crazy thought. I’d still want Norton.

  2. I agree tha tmore of the same is sometimes ok. Refinement is a great thing. The problem is that refinement is like adding three seasons of previous to a TV show. It creates a barrier for entry. The entire FPS genre is littered with that. It’s hard for your first game in the FPS genre to be Halo 3 or CoD because you haven’t built up the know how. When you say you start inFamous 2 with all your previous powers I’m afraid what that much control will do to the game for newcomers. Is it easy to learn how to use them?

One of the biggest complaints about Prototype 2 was that you have all these powers and you never have time to learn them. The greatest piece of advice I ever saw was about that game. What you do is never upgrade. If you don’t upgrade at all until you start getting in trouble it makes the controls much more manageable. I put about 5-6 hours into Prototype and I can’t wait to one day buy it and finish it.

That’s actually one of the draws of Animal Crossing. There’s no excusing the literal sameness of every AC game but one of the benefits is that it’s very easy for anyone to jump into AC because it’s a rather specific genre that a console player might not be used to.

  3. Glad you enjoyed the TV talk. We will be doing more assuming good television is produced and /or rebroadcasted. I still have yet to see Falling Skies………..maybe when I retire.

Bana was a good Banner but the movie fell apart so it doesn’t mean much.

  4. as much TV as you apparently don’t watch.. go ahead and skip Falling Skies. It’s not the worst thing on TV by far but there’s so much good stuff out there.

Hit up Misfits. On the down side it’s British (so it airs later here than in UK), it’s not at all Family Friendly (I don’t know how much time u get without the kids). On the plus side it’s hilarious (laugh out loud funny), it’s short (six episodes a series), it’s basically a brit version of heroes (all the good none of the bad, the kids are rather realistic, it doesn’t drag, the powers are consistent)

Hon: Breaking Bad has some of the best acting on TV. Leverage as you’ve heard is really a fun show. I don’t know how you feel about Raven but her new show State of Georgia is actually not terrible, more adult than you’d expect and worst case Raven is “fun” to look at
