Have Game, Will Play: Cel Damage HD

Back in 2001(2002 for PAL territories) Pseudo Interactive and Electronic Arts released a cel-shaded combat racer called Cel Damage. Fast-forward 13 years and this game was inexplicably given the HD treatment. I never played the original but it didn’t take me long to catch up.

Cel Damage HD** has 3 modes: Flag Rally, Smack Attack and Gate Relay. Each character has an unlimited use projectile but the weapons are key to winning especially in the Smack Attack. Hitting your opponents several hundred times is the key to success. Boxing gloves, grenades, chainsaws, baseball bats, chain guns and more are at your disposal. The other modes are pretty straight forward. Gate Relay is traditional lap racing and Flag Rally requires you to capture a certain number of walking(yes, they have legs) flags and return them to a designated spot.

Paperthin would be the best way could to describe Cel Damage HD. I had some fun with the game but not for long. My eight year old saw the game and asked to play to play some coop. Because to her excitement, I saw a lot more of Cel Damage HD than I intended to. Good thing coop makes most things better.
