Have Game, Will Play: Second Chance Heroes

Through a series of strange and ridiculous events a high school history teacher brings historical figures back to life and uses them as his personal army against hordes of undead monsters. From a bird’s eye 3/4 view you can control a pair of characters like Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Arc, Blackbeard, Queen Elizabeth and more. By completing challenges and gaining more XP  you can unlock new characters and level up different attributes of your character(s) of choice. You are also able to hot swap your characters at any time if they are alive. This can come in handy as the attack range, strength and speed of the cast of character’s attacks vary quite a bit. The gameplay and mechanics are sound but Second Chance Heroes felt somewhat banal. Fighting the same enemy types over and over along with the incessant character specific audio clips and gags got old rather quickly. The frequent and varied boss fights along with some interesting power-ups, like making the enemies dance, were brightspots. Second Chance Heroes is playable solo but clearly couch/online coop is what it does best. If only I could find an online match let alone someone to sit and play with on a couch.
