Have Game, Will Play: The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief

Having grown up playing Sierra and Lucasarts’ adventure games, I was very excited to try The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief. The graphics looked good and the main character reminded me of Hercule Poirot. Of course, this game comes to the Xbox 360 and PS3 well into the renaissance of the point and click adventure game. The Raven is a legendary thief who is being tracked by the French and the Swiss. The exploits of this master criminal are well-known and the bait to catch him/her is the Eye of the Sphinx.

The brief time I spent with this game on the 360 was disappointing as I got stuck early on during the “tutorial” section trying to throw out trash. That issue was resolved and I could see that The Raven was full of potential. The voice acting, while extremely hit or miss, drew me in with very interesting characters. But no matter how interesting the characters are the clunky and awkward controls made it a chore to play. I found my self fighting with the controls to just move around the environments. Hopefully they can update The Raven and provide a smoother experience. I would like to return to this game and catch The Raven.

Recommendation: Try the demo.
