Explosionade Review

Posted in Game Reviews on October 21st, 2010 by Ind1fference

Explosionade is an action platformer from MommysBestGames that is currently available on the XBLIGs channel. This is another game from the minds that brought the world Weapon of Choice and Shoot1UP. The game revolves around an oft disrespected First Lieutenant named  Terry Atticus who finds a protoype mechsuit called GRenaDOS. Atticus travels to the sewers to take the enemy, The Horronym, head on. Meanwhile his loud-mouth CO, Colonel Dagwood Bouche, berates him despite leading a lesser effort at the Horronym fortress. Some of the exchanges between Atticus and Bouche bring a nice sense of levity. Explosionade is an action packed, 40+ level exercise in jumping and shooting that reminded me of the NES classic Blaster Master. Employing the suit’s machine gun, shield and grenades to clear the levels of baddies while opening a space to exit are your primary goals. The game continuously give you tips on how to better use GRenaDOS’ functions, which really become useful facing certain enemy types and Berserker bosses. Explosionade like MBG previous release, Shoot1UP, appears to have been created with a one session playthrough in mind. However the scalable difficulty and speed in Explosionade may prove otherwise and do offer replayability. Nevertheless this game is a fun ride and a steal considering the price of admission.

Ups

plenty of action, leaderboards, configurable speed and difficulty, great price point($1), large bosses, local coop

Downs

Explosionade like many other indies will not get their due, sometimes I got sticky grenades when I wanted bouncy ones(or vice versa), no love story ;)

Overall

If you like jumping and shooting things, in any order you choose, you’ll like this game. Buy it.

The Move………..ment Part 1

Posted in Announcements, Game Peripherals, Game Reviews, Games, Superfluous on September 28th, 2010 by Ind1fference

Having had several false starts last week with Sony Move purchases,  I finally went to my local Kmart to pick one up on Saturday. My rationale was a deal that Kmart was offering for a $25 PS3 game coupon with the purchase of the Move bundle. I will freely admit that I am a sucker for a deal as well as a new gadget. So I am now the owner of Sony’s Wii reaction.

Thoughts from Cybertron

Posted in Game Reviews on September 14th, 2010 by Tiny415

I should get this out of the way now, I am a child of the 80s. I grew up learning life lessons from soldiers and robots that could not hit the broad side of a barn with a laser gun.

So, when I heard there was another Transformers game in development, I was excited. Now I was also cautious because the past several years have not been kind to my robotic brethren in disguise, the first movie game was garbage and the second was simply okay. But there were some redeeming qualities about the announcement.  First this was a prequel, no direct movie or show tie in, and second High Moon Studio (creators of Darkwatch and the SCRUM game development method) was the announced developer. The final plus was the fact that most of the original animated series voice actors were going to be included. My heart skipped a beat at the chance to hear Peter Cullen declare “how many shall stand and how many shall fall”.

Castle Crashers Video Review

This one takes me back to the time when a popular genre consisted of gameplay where you walkedto the right and hit things. Castle Crashers is a lot of fun and well worth the 1200 MS points. Although the online portion is buggy I still had some good games. Bottom Line: Good Buy
